Hey everybody, it’s Gear Stories time again! Like always, if you don’t want to get it, let me know and you won’t anymore But you really should check it out first!
A few quick announcements before we begin….
12 months with no payments and no interest is back! If you have a Sweetwater card, this is the time to use it! If you don’t have one, here’s the link to get one, and THEN call me!
Also, if you don’t know about it, you should! That’s the Three Easy Payments plan. This option has us take a third of the payment for your purchase from your card at the time it ships, and a third thirty days later, and the last third thirty days after that. There is a ten dollar fee to do it, and a few restriction which are boring to write about, so call me if you’re interested!
I’m changing it up this time around, and instead of focusing on two products, I am going to try to provide you with some incredibly useful information for those who are Christmas shopping for a musician… Then I will tell you about a one of a kind event that is happening that has people coming from all over the country (And beyond!) to visit Sweetwater in just a couple short weeks!

Now for part two… DESIGN YOUR OWN CUSTOM PAUL REED SMITH GUITAR!
You guitar players know that the name Paul Reed Smith is legendary in the world of guitars. He makes some of the finest guitars in the world. I have met Paul several times, and is a tall, thin, wiry guy who is LOADED with enthusiasm, and has a very gracious personality.
He also has a passion for… of all things, tone wood! He goes all over the world collecting bits of wood that have unique tonal properties. Over the years, his collection has become enormous, and amazingly varied! They call it his “Private Stock” and it has been reserved for the most special custom guitars he builds. A few weeks ago, Paul sent some members of his staff to Sweetwater with a small truck load of samples of the Private Stock collection, and in a meeting with all of us sales guys, they discussed the various pieces of wood and their origins and tonal properties.
THEN, they started passing them around.
Tone wood makes a unique sound when it’s in it’s raw state and you thump on it with your hand… As the pieces of wood started spreading around the crowd of about 150 of us, it started sounding like a bunch of chimps in a marimba factory!
It was fascinating the way the tone of each chunk of wood was like a fingerprint! Each one ever so subtly different from the others. I can see how the right combination of wood could make a guitar absolutely SING as it resonated as one!
So the REALLY exciting news is that on the 18th and 19th of this month, Paul himself is coming here and bringing the majority of his Private Stock wood for those of you who are seriously interested to see and feel, and best of all HEAR! You can speak to Paul about what specific pieces of wood would combine together to make the results that you most desire.
Along with Paul, you can design your own personal custom Paul Reed Smith guitar, which will be ONE OF A KIND, and totally suited to you, from body shape and finish, to pickups, neck shape, and of course, the wood!
He will be working on both electric and acoustic guitars.
This kind of event has never happened before, and there are people coming from all over to participate.
Of course, these are not going to be five hundred dollar guitars… or even thousand dollar guitars,… or even two thousand dollar guitars. A custom Paul Reed Smith guitar will probably start in the range of around nine or ten thousand dollars, but of course, as each guitar is unique, each price will be unique too, based on the specs you require.
If you are SERIOUS about your guitars, you should call me and get registered!
So I hope you all have a WONDERFUL HOLIDAY SEASON! Spend some time with the people that mean the most to you, and enjoy yourself!
Last year, I took January off from Gear stories… I might make that an annual ritual, so I’ll talk to you again in February!
I look forward to being of service.
